Damat Ferit Pasha was an Ottoman statesman who served as the Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire from 1895 to 1901. He was born in Istanbul in 1853 and began his career as a civil servant in the Ottoman government. In 1895, he was appointed as the Grand Vizier by Sultan Abdul Hamid II.
During his tenure as Grand Vizier, Damat Ferit Pasha tried to modernize the Ottoman Empire and improve its relations with European powers such as France and Britain. He also initiated a number of economic and administrative reforms aimed at strengthening the Ottoman state.
However, Damat Ferit Pasha's rule was marred by political unrest, economic problems, and a series of military defeats suffered by the Ottoman Empire. His policies were also criticized by nationalists who believed that he was overly submissive to European influence.
In 1901, Damat Ferit Pasha resigned from his position as Grand Vizier and was replaced by Ahmed Tevfik Pasha. He later served as the Ottoman ambassador to France and was appointed as Grand Vizier for a second time in 1908, but his tenure was short-lived due to the Young Turk Revolution.
Damat Ferit Pasha died in 1913 in Istanbul. Despite the criticisms leveled against him during his rule, he is remembered as a prominent figure in Ottoman history who played an important role in the country's modernization efforts.
